14 Week Appointment

We had our 14 week appointment today, and I was running so late to the doctor because I had to call a parent after school...yay. I seriously was going like 70-80mph in the rain, yikes! Needless to say, I made it there with 5 minutes to spare. Much to my surprise, there were only 2 other people waiting when I got there. Way different from 4 weeks ago, again, I think it was just because Chuck was there waiting with me last time. It was they only time I had to wait. I got called in and the nurse said my blood pressure was BEAUTIFUL this time which was somewhat of a relief. I know last time I was just so anxious to hear the baby's heartbeat (not that I wasn't this time), but the first time is just different. Right away the nurse found the baby's heartbeat. It was so loud and clear!!! She recorded it at being exactly 155 bpm. After about 30 seconds the sound went away. She said the baby must have moved from under the device. I looked up the bpm research when I got home because I knew above 140 meant one gender and below the other, I just wasn't sure which was which. Well, above 155 means a girl...so the old wives tale says.....We shall see!

The doctor then came in and asked if I had any questions and I said, "As a matter of fact I do!" I asked her if it would be possible to get my 20 week ultrasound at my next appointment (18 weeks) instead. I asked because I want to be able to tell family the baby's gender at Thanksgiving. The doctor said they don't like to do that because the baby would not be as developed as they would like. They want to wait until the full 20 weeks......FINE..... What is 2 more weeks I guess? I was actually doing the math, and I will be 20 weeks the day before we have my family's Thanksgiving. Maybe I can sneak in there before and still tell my family. It is going to be close!

I got my belly measured today for the first time and she said it is right where it should be for 14 weeks. She said that she could definitely feel my uterus. Kind of weird but exciting at the same time.

Chuck then got there (a little late because he had work) and she let us hear the heartbeat again! This time she was using an older Doppler monitor. You could hear it, but it wasn't as loud. All of the sudden there was this loud "THUMP!" She said, "Oh! That was the baby kicking!" It was so crazy!!! I didn't feel it, but it was still really neat to hear.

While I was giving my monthly urine sample, I noticed a paper on the door that said the health department was giving free H1N1 vaccines to pregnant women at the hospital TOMORROW! There was a number I had to call, but they were already gone for the day. The doctor said I really need to to try and get in there, especially because I am a teacher and around kids all day. She said she wasn't sure if I was going to get it though because of how late I get out of work. Ugh. I can't believe they are only doing it one day. The doctor said there is a limited supply, and is sure there will be another round of vaccines, but is not sure when. I am going to try calling early in the morning to see if anything would be possible for tomorrow.

So, my next appointment is scheduled for November 13th (Friday the 13th); don't know how I feel about that, but oh well.

Just on a side note... Chuck had a dream 2 nights ago that we had a boy and last night he had a dream that we had a girl! He just cannot make up his mind. I wish I had dreams about what we had!!!

I am back to thinking it is going to be a girl...
