So.... I had today off of work because of Veteran's Day. I thought I would get my tooth cleaning out of the way since I had time. Going to the dentist really doesn't bother me because I LOVE my dentist, they have been nothing but wonderful....until today.
Once I got called into the back and got into a chair, the hygienist asked me if I had any problems or pains, and I said, "no." She then began to clean my teeth while chit-chatting and then stopped and said, "Oh, what's this?" I knew exactly what she was referring to! I have this bump on my lower gum in the back of my mouth, it isn't painful, but is there and has been there since January. I was concerned about it in January, so I went to this same dentist and he said it is probably just from me grinding my teeth at night since I have TMJ. He took X-rays then and confirmed it was nothing serious. Well NOW... I have an abscessed tooth and need a root canal done ASAP! The reason I am so upset is because this could have been taken care of 10 months ago!!!! Now being pregnant there a re whole list of things that make me crazy about about having a root canal done! I have had this infection on my mouth for 10+ months now; has it affected the baby? Will any of the medications I will have to take affect the baby? Ahhhh! This could have all been avoided if my dentist looked harder when I first came to him 10 MONTHS AGO with this issue!!!! I have a right to be upset, right?
I came home from my appointment and immediately did some research on having an abscessed tooth while pregnant and getting a root canal while pregnant. It seems as if there is nothing to worry about, but still. Would have liked to have gotten this done before baby Mamich was in my belly.
An appointment is scheduled with the root canal specialist for Wednesday so she can get a look at the tooth. A root canal will be scheduled from there. Yippie!
On a more positive note...I do have my 18 week appointment this Friday! I will update you when I get home from the doctors!
