Today we had our first "official" maternity appointment. Chuck came with me today because we were told we should be able to pick up the baby's heartbeat on the Doppler! We both had been looking so forward to today for about 2 weeks now.
We got to the doctor's office and ended up waiting for 45 minutes! This is the longest I have had to wait in the 3 times I have gone, go figure, the first time Chuck comes with me we have to wait forever. It was also torture waiting because we were looking sooo forward to getting in there! There were 3 people that we had seen go into the doctor's office and leave while we were still waiting...ugh.
Finally my name got called and we were in! Of course I had to do the usual: pee in a cup and get weighed. I have only gained 2 pounds so far, yippee. Let's see how long this lasts.... The nurse then came in and did her usual stuff:asked if I had any questions/concerns and took my blood pressure. The first time she took it today, it was a bit high which is unusual. She then took it again on my other arm, and it was a bit better, just a little high now. They didn't seem to be too worried about it. I think my heart must have been pounding 400 beats per minute because I was so excited. She then told me to put on a gown because the doctor would have to do a pelvic exam since it was my first maternity appointment. I then had to stop her and ask if she could try and pick up the heartbeat, I mean this is what we had been waiting for!!! She was like, "Oh yeah! I can try. It may be a little early still but we will give it a good try."
She then came in and had the Doppler on my belly for about 5 minutes shifting all around and no heartbeat. She said it still must be too early. We were so disappointed. I then asked her if it was possible to get an ultrasound so I can at least SEE the heartbeat allowig me to have some peace of mind. She said I would have to ask the doctor, but that the doctor was going to try when she came in.
The doctor then had the doppler on my belly for about a minute and said, "It looks like we won't be able to hear it today." We were sooo bummed. Then all of the sudden she moved it a little to the left, and there it was!!!! She smiled and said, "There's your baby!!!" It was amazing. I wish we would have recored the sound on one of our phones because I want to hear it again so badly. Maybe next time.... The 45 minute wait was totally worth it!
She then give me a quick breast and pelvic exam and said everything feels exactly like it should for being 10 weeks along. I didn't think things could get any better until.....
We were sitting at the check-out desk and the woman said that our insurance said they are covering 100% of all of our maternity costs (labs, tests, hospital) EVERYTHING!!! WOO HOO!! The day could not have gone any better. We were all smiles on the way home. :)
My symptoms have significantly decresed. I get a little queazy here and there, but feel much better once I eat. My pants do not feel as comfortable as they used to, but they still fit! I don't think it will last must longer. I can't wait to start showing!!!
I PROMISE belly pics will be up soon!
