I am currently 5 weeks and 2 days along! I found out August 4, 2009 around 7:00 p.m. It was 4 days before my missed period, and I thought, "What the heck." I took the home pregnancy test while Chuck's parents were over for his mom's birthday and it was seriously the longest 3 minutes of my life! While fixing my hair in the mirror, I looked to my left and saw "pregnant" on the test. I think I then had the BIGGEST smile on my face followed by a little bit of shaking..lol. I couldn't tell Chuck right away because his family was still over. They were over for about another hour and a half...ugh. It was so hard to keep this amazing secret! When they left, Chuck was washing his hands in our bathroom and I pulled the positive test out of my pocket. He looked at it and said, "Oh my gosh, are you serious?!?!" He could not believe it. I was still in shock myself, so we proceeded to go to Walgreens to buy some more home pregnancy tests. We bought two different brands just to be safe. As soon as we got home, I took another one. Another 3 minutes later, "YES+" Wow, this is really happening! I was drinking tons of water just so I could pee again and take a third test! So, 5 minutes later I took another one, but this one said "Not Pregnant." I was a little scared, confused, and disheartened, but knew I really didn't have to pee that last time; I just kind of forced it out. It had to have been all water by that point. We decided to stop taking pregnancy tests for the night and we would take another in the morning since the pregnancy hormone (Hcg) is supposed to be highest then. We woke up, and first thing, I took another test. Another 3 minutes and a "YES+" Woo Hoo!!! About an hour later I took my LAST ONE and got a "Pregnant." I think it is official now.
I called my gynecologist and had explained the previous night and morning, and she asked, "How many pregnancy tests did you take?" Haha. I said, "Five." She then said, and I will never forget it, "Honey, You're pregnant." So I made my first appointment for Tuesday, August 17th at 2:15 p.m. At this appointment, I was told I will just pretty much talk with the doctor and ask her any questions I might have. I believe I will have another urine test taken as well as blood work. I will give an update after I get back from my appointment!
We were so excited we had to tell our families and close friends right away. It was a tough decision whether to tell or wait, but we just couldn't keep this great news a secret! We told our parents by buying a picture frame that said "Grand kids are the sunshine in life" and had the due date in the picture area. They were shocked and very excited. We made a few phone calls also that day. :) Our friends and family have been awesome and very supportive.
It is a bit nerve-racking not being very far along yet. There is always that fear of miscarrying. I will feel a bit better once I hit the 8th week mark. All I can do is pray and know that whatever happens will happen for a reason. I am starting to think more positive and am wearing a St. Gerard medal my mom, dad, and sister bought for me. I just have to have faith that everything will be okay.
At about week 4, I felt as if I were getting my period. I was experiencing slight back and pelvic cramping as well as breast tenderness. Now, the cramping has pretty much subsided, but still have quite tender breasts. I have only felt queasy 3 times and felt better after eating something. So far being pregnant is not bad at all!!!
